The Cynics were a Greek philosophical sect that stressed stoic self-sufficiency and the rejection of luxury. Diogenes - the Cynical archetype - made it his mission to expose the falsity of conventional standards and call people back to a simpler life.
Cynical software adheres to the Cynical philosophy by following these three tenets:
-
Cynical software is self sufficient. Programs are not dependent on third party tools and libraries.
-
Cynical software rejects meaningless luxury. Programs are designed to be as simple as possible and spurious features are avoided.
-
Cynical software exposes falsity. Cynical software demonstrates the inadequacies of the competition.
